Maria Virginia Reina

Still Life with Tulips

The tulips have by now

splayed out

like gnarled cartoons,

so starved of

voyeurism

and solar kisses

that they sink, like women

at their chore.

They droop and drop

amidst their murky vase –

or as you might say,

vase –

with the same quiet contempt

of the female gaze –

or any other still life.
